Can someone tell us a little more about Bob? I wasn't familiar with the name at all, until the past year, when I learned that he may have been the person that made the leadpipe adjustments to old Alex tubas for Don Harry and some of his students. If that's true, then my wild leadpipe is likely Bob's work...?

Here’s a good biography of, and interview with, him by Carole Nowicke on ITEA’s website for their oral history project. There is a ton of info on him in the article.

Ohhhhh. So sorry to hear this. I met Bob at the FIRST T.U.B.A. Symposium at Indiana University, May 1973. GREAT guy and total gentleman. He'll be missed.

I knew that I had seen his name before in the trumpet world. He resurrected a flattened Bach C for Roy Hempley. The C trumpet was from the same time as those used by the Chicago Symphony.
Roy Hempley wrote a lot of articles on research he did into Bach's trumpets. I just realized that he died in 2020. I really enjoyed reading all his articles.
Here is a link to the article featuring Bob Pallansch. It has some great photos of Bob at work.
Note: this web page is displayed using some annoying frame stuff and automatic drop-down menus. I see displayed at first a website disclaimer on the age of the material. I have to select the article again to get it to appear. If you do not see the article that you expect at first, go to the top menu bar and, under Other Articles and Tidbits, select Resurrection of a Chicago C. The real article should have the title "Resurrection of a Chicago C" at the top.

Sorry to hear this. I played next to him several times and he was always a joy to sit next to.
