sunrise away from the church (municipal "shell"...we've all seen those Depression-era-built - I'm thinking: CCC - outdoor venues throughout the country) and one or two services at the church...

...but it makes me wonder (same contractor) about my regular Easter job.
I was actually paid for Easter (which did NOT occur) at my REGULAR place LAST year, with the agreement that I/we would play there next (this) year for half...??

Not paid gigs, but I only played once in 2020 for a recording for the online Christmas service. Going back Sunday afternoon to record three tunes for future online services. Quintet music.

So the playing is picking up a bit. Kids are back in school on Monday also. Nice changes.

I didn't organize my post very well...

The post (and others are always welcome to post on related topics) is about me being tied in with last-year's cancelled Easter gig at a particular church, and agreeing to play (the next time there's a gig there) at half-rate...so last-year's cancelled gig is not tied in with "anyman", but is tied in - specifically - with five particular brass musicians (and a timpanist), of which I am one those five...

...so - now that I've been hired at a DIFFERENT church, WHAT IF last year's church suddenly calls that same contractor (who they always have called) and lets that contractor know that Easter is "on" ?

Finally, last year's cancelled-Easter church mailed payment to me (and not to the contractor), so I'm not sure that I'm "out of the loop".

I probably misread it also. It seems a little like a covid era "you snooze you lose deal" for the last church that calls.

I suppose it could be a group decision on where to play and if you feel obligated to honor the "play for half" deal. I suppose it might depend on where where the group would like to play going forward. Or let the contracting agent sort it out, the money probably isn't enough to create a kerfuffle.

If you accepted and cashed the check, "WHAT IF last year's church suddenly calls that same contractor (who they always have called) and lets that contractor know that Easter is "on" ?,to an honourable person, as I am sure Bloke would be, the question becomes: "Who do I get to sub for me on the full pay gig?"

Just my opinion.........................

The contractor should sort things out.

The contractor is really organized.

I'm beginning to think that he must have already heard from church #1 that nothing is going to happen, so (being nice to me, and not wishing for my astonishingly good-enough talents to go to waste) he booked me into church #2.
