Trumcor Practice Mute ?

Anyone have experience with the Trumcor Practice Mute, the standard version without the movable tube? I'd like to use it with a Miraphone CC186. I have a Schlipf Practice Mute, the one recommended for the 186 and am not happy with it. The pitch is off and the range in which it works at all is limited. I also have the Denis Wick Practice Mute which works beautifully on my Yamaha 321 Eb. If I could make the Wick work with my 186, I'd love it but so far nothing I've tried has worked. (only a couple of attempts with some foam to play with the depth it goes into the bell) Any info on the Trumcor greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Not sure if the DW has enough volumen for your larger tuba, but yes it works fine with a YEB 321. Probably you want to lower its resonance frequency, which you can do by making a longer port in the opening of the mute.
Find a plastic tube which fits just inside the hole, cut some 15 to 20 cm, and cover it with tape in one end til it snug fits. Insert it inside with the tube going inside the mute. Cut the lenght shorter in small intevals until it works.
You can also roll and tape some plastic sheet to make your tube.
This works also with straight mutes.

I'm not a fan of the Trumcor practice mutes, I've talked with Rick in the past about a redesign. I have access to both a Schlipf and a Trumcor, the Schlipf is significantly better (and lighter).
If you can find one, I'd recommend a Wallace practice mute for your 186, they look like the schlipf mutes. I have an older one and it's by far the best of the three.
