Overture to Verdi La Forza del destino with The Columbia Symphony Orchestra conducted by Thomas Schippers? Just heard this on the radio. Really nice tuba playing throughout.

Bum,
The "Columbia Symphony" could be a pick up group in NYC, Cleveland, or Los Angeles. “Columbia Symphony” (members of the Cleveland Orchestra) recordings are marked with an asterisk (there were also New York and Los Angeles versions of the Columbia Symphony). If there is a way to determine when and which group was playing the performance you cite above, it might be easier to ID the tuba player.

Being that it was Thomas Schippers, it was most likely done in New York. It was released in 1961, so probably recorded around '59-60ish. Bill Bell or Joe Novotny would be most likely. Could also be Don Butterfield or Harvey Phillips.
