Meeting Up With Tubists

Today I had the pleasure of meeting and hanging out with Doc and his family. I have been speaking with him on the forums for over a decade. As expected, it was great to talk life, tuba, and have a great time. One of the things I have learned over the years is that tuba players do not often get to see each other due to the lone nature of our instruments, and these get together make the profession very enjoyable.

I'd love to meet Bill some day, I'll have to make it happen. Bloke, too...

I met a forum member today, too... I met @humBell, who was passing through town, and is graciously letting me borrow his 25J for a little while. :smilie8: I'm TOO curious what an upright bell would be like on my 20J, and was TOO curious what a 4th valve would be like on one of these.

A rare opportunity to do some A/B testing, which shall be well documented, and will be very helpful for me to decide if I want to track down my own upright bell for the 20J, track down a 25J, or ditch the big Conn's altogether!

Good to meet you, Rob!

James has been by here once or twice. It’s great to meet some of these folks in the flesh!
…and - being a college teacher, he IS a “tubist”.
The rest of us are “tuba players”.

It was a treat for me to hang out with you and your bride. It's true that the nature of our existence is one of moderate isolation. Your idea about a TubaForum meet/convention/hang sure would be a fun one to pull off. Most tuba dudes and gals are pretty darned awesome folks.

In case you couldn't tell by the spill on my shirt, I had carne guisada, charro beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, corn tortillas. DANG it was good, but I knew it would be. I think James had chipotle enchiladas? His bride had tacos?, mine had shrimp/chicken/beef enchiladas with chile con queso, and my unadventurous stepdaughter had default quesadillas (unless we tell her she can't, she gets the same old $#!+ - quesadillas or chicken strips), although the quesadillas are excellent at that place.

Doc nailed what we ate. That was some good “texican” food. I’m all up for a tuba forum hang!
