Address is a
Pawn Shop. I think your kidneys are safe, but I don't know about the provenance of the instrument.

About 20 mins from me. Heading out there in a little bit to check it out.

I called the Burnsville police to see if they had any reports of stolen tubas. They were going to call the pawn shop and investigate.

Got the “all clear” from the Burnsville PD, called the pawn shop and was told that it had sold. Sigh.

I talked to a person there this morning, she said she'd set it aside for me until I got there. Just call before I go.
Just called...
"Yes, we still have it."
"We pulled the listing, we're working through some stuff."
"Actually, there's another guy who wants to make a deal for it."
"We're striking a deal."
[lots of questions from me to dig deeper...]
"Ok, look, at the end of the day, it was priced way too low. It's probably going to sell to the other guy for more, but if we relist it, it'll be for a lot more."
Meh!

I have this sneaking suspicion that there is no “other guy”.
Here’s how my conversation went with them…
Me: “Is the tuba still available?”
Pawn: “No, it’s been sold, but we’re getting another one in that’s really similar, but more expensive”
Me: “Um, yeah, sure. Bye.”
They’re just pulling it and making a significant markup. They didn’t have a clue what they had.

Oh that's classic!
I mean, they
should sell it for what it's worth, and nobody really deserves "something for nothing," although it's fun to think about what could have been. It
is super sketchy to list it, lie about it (maybe?), pull it, and then relist it at a higher price.
Reminds me of a very long time ago, I went to a coin show, and a vendor had a box full of old worn out stuff, 50 cents each. Mostly junk, but I looked through everything and found about 10 Flying Eagle pennies in there. Not great condition, but worth far more than 50 cents each, especially for that many of them. The guy running the store was like "uh, no, those one will cost more." I argued against it, then my dad showed up and was like WTF... and I paid 50 cents each for them.

If the previous owner played it with the tuning slide in that position, it's just as well that they pawned it.

If you can't trust a pawn shop, who CAN you trust!
