Has anyone here ever done this just a test a mouthpiece before plating it, and – if so – did it last through a weekend, or just through the day?
(Even after 10 minutes, I’m tasting brass, so I need to try something…)

If you mean Nikolas 2105 in the spray can, then yes several times. It lasted as long as that lacquer typically lasts when you prep the work fully, which was for years. I used three very thin coats.

Re: Nitrocellulose lacquer over an un-plated brass rim
By the way, I had better results painting an old, bare brass rim with clear nail polish, which is easy to remove and reapply. I did that for about ten years to an old Helleburg I loved. I finally had it replated, and the guy buffed it so much he altered the rim size and contour and opened up the throat a little. I was pissed. I should have kept the nail polish on the rim and let it stay ugly. I like ugly quite a bit, and this experience was one of the reasons behind this preference.
