Merry Christmas to me!

Post by Charlie C Chowder »

Many years ago while I was visiting my brother for a month. My wife decided to paint the front room. I came home to find that all of my mouth pieces were gone. Now i have an old York that takes a very large shank, bigger than a Kaiszer. I was able to replace it of Ebay. But I keep checking and have never seen another one. Putting away my elf costume after CT today I was looking for more room for my clothes in my storage bedroom closet. Bang! There is a box that clinks when it was moved. Over 25 mouth pieces found. Plus, several more boxes of things I was to disturb to have notice missing. Now I have to figure out what was in the space before she moved the boxes there.

Happy Me,
CCC

More than once, I have found that a whole bunch of my possessions were put in a cardboard box or plastic tub and hidden off somewhere…

…yet - I am lectured about their stuff:

“DON’T MOVE ANYTHING !!!

bloke “That’s OK… Instead of sharpening those four chainsaw chains that I had laid out, I’ll just go buy four nice new ones, and stay home from whatever it is that you wanted to go to - to cover the cost of them.” 😎

My "Just found a box of 25 tuba mouthpieces while putting away my elf costume" T-shirt has people asking a lot of questions already answered by my shirt.

The eyeglass frames I have on now were MIA for 3+ years.

They had been organized to oblivion. :facepalm2:

Slow cataract degradation has defined that glasses aren't worth wearing, anymore:

- I can drive day/night and see stuff (probably better than some people WITH glasses - other than green street signs, which suck anyway).
- I can still read very small print (but use drug-store magnifiers to examine solder joints, tiny threads, etc.)
- It's all just somewhat "messed up" (think: dirty windshield).
- With poorly-lit or poorly-printed sheet music (orchestra, etc.), when necessary I've become a damn-good guesser (or have played "blah-blah" many-many times before, etc...), but now (also) take a look at (easy-schmeazy) stuff prior to rehearsals.

I'll tend to this SOMETIME, but - in the meantime - I do NOT like facing the (yeah: eventual) prospect of having to decide between ONLY focusing up close or ONLY focusing far away (as I can still do both, somewhat well - through the "dirty windshield").

Congrats! That's an amazing feeling. I thought I had lost my excerpt notebook years ago. Mother kept insisting she had mailed it to me when I moved after college. Kept digging around my parents' basement (which is....not for the faint of heart). LO AND BEHOLD. There it was. It DOES feel like Christmas.

Some months ago, shelves moved out for new flooring. Stuff put in boxes. Flooring and shelves reinstalled. Boxes found. I still need to make time to re-sort and figure out what goes back on the shelves. Or not.

It sounds like you all have way too much stuff. Most people do.

I was in NYC for 6 weeks after Hurricane Ida inspecting flooded basements. People brought me to areas of their homes they never show their guests. Hoarding is very common- age, wealth, ethnicity, doesn't matter. It's everywhere. In rural areas, their hoarding is scattered about the yard. It's unhealthy physically, financially, and practically.

Then a flood or tornado comes and it's all ruined. Why hold on to stuff you don't use? Sell it, donate it, or dispose of it. You'll feel better, like you've lost a lot of fat.

I'm in the middle of rebuilding one of our bathrooms. I am constantly misplacing tools as I'm using them, and get frustrated that I'm wasting so much time looking for them. Most times -- my wife is able to find them in about 5 seconds. "Um... is that what you need right next to you?" :facepalm2:

Actually, that happens ALL the time:

Her: Can you please get some some ___ from the pantry?
Me: Sure.
[5 minutes later]
Me: I think we're out.
Her: Oh FFS...
[10 seconds later]
Her: It's right here!

Right? I tell her "You just put that there!"

There was an episode of King of Queens, or Everybody Loves Raymond, or something like that once... where the wife was always asking the guy to do something, and he didn't want to do it, so he planned to intentionally do such an awful job of it so often, that she would just get disgusted and say "oh, forget it, I'll just do it myself". Sometimes I think my wife things I'm doing that. :facepalm2:

This-all really cracks me up, because I'm more like you guys but do not suffer from having a wife. I was told once that my domicile appeared as if I were living in a garage (not dirt, just a bit of disorganized clutter, with the usual "but I know where everything is.") I remember when my local tuba friend Mike Sherline got married, and she redid the "library." He said, "I can't find anything any more." I thought, what's the matter with her that she would mess with his stuff and not even tell him what she did with it? Like the box of mouthpieces in the closet...did she not know what she did with them? Oh, that would not fly in my house, but then again, as I said, I do not have a wife.

All right, you have talked me into it.

Time to clean my apartment!
