Did anyone else get tuba-related gifts?

This year my mother was unable to shop, so my wife went shopping on her behalf, buying gifts for her to give to me (I did the mirror version so she could have gifts for my wife). My wife, well aware of my resurgent interest in all things tuba, procured a copy of “The Art of Tuba and Euphonium” by Harvey Phillips and William Winkle. It looks like a fantastic read! A real treasure trove of information. Did anyone else receive a tuba or euphonium related gift they would like to share about?

I gave myself a new-to-me euphonium, a scissors (lid) hinge for my tuba case, a tank of gas - to make it into Memphis and back home on Christmas Eve, and my sister-in-law gave me a bottle of whiskey. I think those are all tuba-related. 🎄

Not for years, I hinted around about a crown royal purple bag for my mouthpiece and Al Cass, but people are slow on the uptake. Tuba players.

A couple DEG tuba stands so I can keep at church - one in the rehearsal room and one in the sanctuary.

I bought myself a rotary valve, some crooks, a few short slide "runners", and some braces. 'Tis the season for soldering…

I used to have one of these shirts... but it got worn out after 10-12 years. The in-laws got me a new one :smilie8:

Yes. I got a couple of method books and a bell cover from my Amazon list from my wife and son.

My brother sent me a sweater and jacket that are way more expensive than I would ever buy for myself, and my sister gave me a few things, but Mrs. bloke and I do not exchange gifts…
We already have way too much stuff, and it’s better that we just do (not “buy”, but actually “do”) really “big“ things for each other on a regular basis, than give each other Chinese crap.

I gave my soon-to-be son-in-law one of my Kellyberg mouthpieces. He was inspired by TubaChristmas and now he wants to learn.

Real gifts are things that turn into something more - without you having to do anything else for that person. Another example would be a thought provoking book - a book that person’s mind (open to truths, rather than merely open to “things they are routinely told”) is ready to absorb.

My wife got me some REALLY good Yemeni coffee. It's completely different from Colombian coffee, very light, and tastes strongly of spices and cardamom and is naturally sweet... And is that way just the coffee beans, nothing added to it. Lighter roast and higher caffeine. Almost like a tea-like drink than a black coffee. It is amazing, and has blown my mind about what coffee can be.

In that case beer definitely counts.

Being green, I eschew beer (as – according to some – humans have already overpopulated the planet), due to whiskey being much more efficient, taking up less physical space, and - most importantly - containing no carbon.
