another cheap blokoncoction...

It takes me an hour to get to-and-from a supermarket or a Walmart (plus parking/buying/walking back out), TWO hours to go anywhere to/from Memphis (plus taking my life in my own hands), and 3/4ths of an hour to get to any other store - other than a dollah-stoh...so - besides preferring to spend a dime, rather than twelve dollars - I tend to make up concoctions.
I was about to Brasso/toothbrush/Dawn/toothbrush and then lamp-wick the valveset of needed-to-be-cleaned-up tuba valveset.
whoops
...no Brasso (nor any stuff that y'all are going to tell me "bloke, you should buy this stuff, because blah-blah"), so I pulverized a little piece of Tripoli (buffing compound in cake form) that I picked up off the buffing room floor, dissolved it in gasoline (because other petroleum-based solvents are too expensive to waste two tablespoons) and scrubbed the tarnish and other grime off that valveset "like nobody's bidnuss" is a fairly short amount of time.
I'm going to use this same cheap crap (the chunk of tripoli WOULD have been caught with the broom and discarded) NEXT time.
Maybe, y'all might try it...(??)

I've done that, too. I have also had some success polishing blackened mouthpieces on my bench motor using a tiny lump of red rouge dissolved in Al Cass on a square of t-shirt "jersey" cloth.

That's not good. I'm calling the EPA.
I'm calling OSHA.
You don't know what's good for you, Son!!

What the hell else could it possibly need...??
It ALREADY has gasoline, for pity's sake.

I love the smell of gasoline and agree with Joe on this, Brian. Get with the program, man.

I did - actually - laugh.
(My stuff, I am aware, is never all that funny...)

I’d like to change my vote to;
Mail millions of “free” useless Personal Radiation Detectors to everyone populating the USA with a reminder that you care and that your political opposition would rather see them dead, hoping they don’t notice that you were the idiot that provoked the attack.

Back in the day we had one of those old Civil Defense Geiger counters on the truck, must have been from the 1950s. Never used it even once (even though we needed to drill on it once a year and check the battery) - and I never saw where it was any good for anything anyway.
