HEADS UP - FRIDAY LUNCH REHEARSAL LIVE STREAM: seeking the advice of the artistes...

Upcoming in March, there was a conflict, and I had to choose between Tchaik IV and Dvorak IX.

Being a professional - NEVER an artiste - and after very thoughtful consideration/deliberation - I choose... mo' money.

Since I lack the sensitivities and sensibilities of an artiste, I'm asking for advice (as this is an issue over which we - so often - wring our hands, particularly when it is patently obvious that our music directors couldn't possibly care less.

I'm already sure which instrument will be dragged on stage for this oh-so-vital-to-"The Music" excerpt, but - hey - It's ALWAYS fun to poll the freak jury, yes?

You should be ashamed to allow filthy lucre to enter into this decision.

I always let diversity, equity and inclusion be my guide... :red:

...so are we demonstrating солідарність with Russia, with it's satellites, or with both ?

I've never played an Eb tuba, but I have to imagine there would be nothing more rewarding than sitting quiet, getting cold, and then coming in on that E natural on the Besson.

My instinct was to rally around the workers of free and democratic Canada.

But the cool kids said they would kick me out of their club if I did. :smilie6:

2 & 4 (particularly with that added loop on the back of the #2 casing, works just fine for E.

Someone sent me an interesting twitter-hosted video, today, of a GWN "hero" stealing a flag from a 13-year-old girl, and that "hero's" subsequent fate. It was telling, if not humorous. I have absolutely idea whether the "hero" or the girl play the tuba or like Dvorak.

I'd love to see it done on the sparkly sousaphone.

But if you aren't that daring, take the BBb and put a rich, clear bottom on that chorale. You don't really need the large 5450 for those 14 notes, unless you just like how it blends/fits with the group. And you wouldn't have to do much work to keep up. The Symphonie would have great tone, but is it large enough? An Eb would likely be just fine, but does it really have that BBb warmth and presence? How big is the group? Who are the players? What fits best with them? Does the conductor like traditional American sound or something else? Or does he care? Do you get additional cartage with a bigger tuba?

Doc (noting that the visually appealing sparkly sousaphone eliminates the need for ALL questions :smilie8: )

I voted cardboard
Which is basically a vote for no tuba
Bass trombone plays the same notes
Because: does it really need a tuba?

Why waste time playing those notes…when you could be hanging out at the bar flirting with some composers wife?

Well hell, Joe, I was all set to say "Tenor Tuba," but you had to go and sell it... :eyes:

Apparently, it was collecting too much dust.

At over $60/note, the tuba player needs them...

...and I believe I would need to see a more recent picture...

No thanks... She's been dead for nearly 100 years. I don't need to see that!

A good example of what was, at one time, described as “sturdy”

It’s been a long time since I’ve read about various composers, and I may have him mixed up with someone else…
… but I’m thinking that she had a much prettier sister, but he had to settle for this one, for some reason.
someone – perhaps someone professionally hired to trip people up on doctoral testing rigmarole – could either call me out as incorrect, or enhance the small amount that I might have correct.

Better looking?? To judge would be unseemly. :red:

But lets face it, Dvorak was a 19th century Jerry Colonna lookin little bastard himself!! :smilie2:

There we go… 😎
Spoken like a true artiste…
…and obviously a peer reviewed and certified artiste. After all, it’s in his signature. 😐

Hmm... maybe the Sparkly Sousaphone would have been a better choice. After all, diversity, inclusivity, et al... :facepalm2:

You were, at one time, a Buescher artiste.

Yes or no?
