So I have a dozen large shank euphonium/trombone mouthpieces over here, and now that I've spent a good week getting used to the Adams Euphonium, I thought it was time to try different mouthpieces on it

After going through my whole collection, ONCE AGAIN, the mouthpiece that my wife and I both agree on is the generic mouthpiece that came with the my packer. I dont know what it is, I don't know why it's so magical, but that's two euphoniums that I've owned that this one has come out on top when played in a shootout

It bugs me because I'm not sure if I could get another one as a backup, and this one is starting to show its age. It "might" be a slightly megatone version of a 51D, the inner diameter kinds of reminds me of that. I honestly have no idea

I suspect this has a good bit to do with that to which one what one is accustomed, along with what that which one is intending to do with a particular instrument.

As you know, I’ve recently swapped European euphoniums for a larger one – albeit with considerably less cachet than yours. I’ve posted many times here what my purposes are for owning a chromatic euphonium. With the slightly smaller instrument that I previously owned, I was using an oversized mouthpiece to accomplish what I needed to accomplish with it. Now - as the instrument itself is larger, i’m finding that a particular bass trombone mouthpiece with a normal with rim (actually, one that Miraphone offered in the 1970s, of which they only had one dusty new one left on their shelf in Germany) is suiting me best and offering the same access to the very low range as before. (Though I try to not be a mouthpiece “clotheshorse”, I seem to have an embarrassingly large collection of large shank mouthpieces in the tenor trombone/bass trombone/euphonium size range.)

The thing is this, though: The “Mirafone” mouthpiece that I’m using is also a mere “stock“ mouthpiece that they supplied with a bass trombone that they manufactured during that time…never hyped as any sort of “boutique“ mouthpiece…so (sort of) in the same category as the one you were using.
…I’m not saying that my mouthpiece is just like yours, but just that they are both “very fine-playing stock mouthpieces”.

I'd have to agree that, stated differently, your own personal chops / physical makeup might just "like" a particular mouthpiece as a "bestie." Like me and my PT64 that "works" on all the tubas I've played, including Sam Pilafian's Besson CC....at which time he remarked, "That's a good mouthpiece for that tuba." I think...that's a good mouthpiece for me, and it doesn't matter a whole bunch what tuba I'm playing, at least at my level of (in)competence.
Same with euph....no matter which of the quite a few euphs I went through before settling on my slightly battered but well-playing Sterling, I keep going back to my Kelly 5G. Nothing else works as well for me, and I think it's the "me" rather than the "euph."

I might be used to it now, but at one point I did a mouthpiece shootout for the Packer, and this one won, despite the fact that it had been on my mouthpiece rack from the moment that I purchased the horn. I had been using a Bach 4g or something similar up until that point and discounted the stock mouthpiece because it looked small

Joe, is there a way to find out what mouthpieces Packer is supplying with their horn now, and if it's the same one as 5 years ago (doubtful) letting me buy a couple of them?

I sorta doubt that bits-and-pieces are stocked at the USA warehouse, so a second one would probably have to come from the UK.

If (??) this is the correct mouthpiece, I could have another sent here (from the UK) the next time I order some "bits and pieces" from them...

I also might have one, if JP shipped the same piece with their bass trombone. It was way too small for bass trombone, but it does sort of look like a 51D sized megatone. I’m happy to mail it to you, Mark.

That’s the same reason I ended up with a few of them, here and there.
The factory accidentally put euphonium mouthpieces in the cases with those really nice model JP333 bass trombones.
When I sell JP333 instruments locally, I swap the mouthpieces out, and when I sell them shipped straight from the warehouse, I mail a bass trombone mouthpiece separately to the customer.
(JP sent me a shipment of their Wick style bass trombone mouthpieces to address this issue.)

Ha, I just wrote @djwpe and told him that when I bought a Packer bass, it came with a pretty decent bass trombone mouthpiece (that I wound up giving away to a student that couldn't afford a real bass mouthpiece. She was trying to play the school owned bass on a 6 1/2AL that the school had.

Just got done teaching a lesson to a student that owns a 51d. Compare them and took some measurements and it looks like the generic mouthpiece is indeed a copy of a 51 D with more mass on the outside and a larger throat and back bore. So very much a megatone 51d. Good concept for a mouthpiece. It's nice that somebody took the time to make something decent for a giveaway mouthpiece

My daughter recently bought a cornet from Austin Custom Brass.
The horn came with an unlabeled mouthpiece that has been her favorite so far in that instrument. It's a good match. I don't know if the retailer had a hand in deciding what the giveaway mouthpiece should be, or if the manufacturer decided, but we've been happy with the result.

It costs the same to turn a mouthpiece with really nice dimensions on the inside vs. one with mediocre dimensions on the inside. I believe it’s a good idea to ship a likely-successful mouthpiece with a new instrument, so that the first impression of the instrument is likely to be a good one.

Ran across this last night. Not sure which one of the wick models they used as a basis for the no name packer, but I bet it was copied from this line. the exterior is identicle

Probably the 5BL if I had to guess.
