The pictures aren't very good, but it's always neat to see the really old stuff. It's probably very similar to the front-action 1895 Conn Eb that I have... except that I paid $30 for mine (it's in much worse shape, but it still plays).
About an hour north of me. Would have to be a heck of a price drop to get me up there for it.

If i could get it for the price of local pick up, i probably would.
I imagine the deal breaker for me is the 4 digit asking price.
On the other hand, the listing does say seller is open to offers.

Re: 1880s Conn Eb
Frankly, I'd like the bell if it's more stable than mine. The rim on my bell... the "bead" is separating from the "bell"... I'm not sure the correct terminology, but basically, what's supposed to be 1 piece is splitting into 2 pieces. It's been rolled out a few times over the years, but the bell rim stuff just seems like a function of the horn being well over 100 years old. Things WILL wear out over that much time.
I'm not sure how easily or not the bell rim can be repaired, but I'm not interested to spend much money on my tuba to do things to it. I'd like to have a few braces re-installed, and have the rim soldered up so that it's not going to cut me. It seems TubaChristmas worthy as-is (because it actually plays okay), but I wouldn't have any expectations or uses for the tuba beyond that.
I'd offer $100 max for the bell if it's in extremely nice shape, and the same as mine. But that's so far below his price, I wouldn't even know how to open that conversation. And it's a lot of money for what it is.
Not to mention, the costs to have someone install it for me. None of it makes any sense. I think $100 total (including my initial $30) is about as much as I can stomach spending on it. (Especially compared to the Martin, which needs a little attention, but is definitely worth putting a little $ into)
If that horn was shiny, assembled, and functional, I think he'd get away with asking something around the price of shipping for it. But I can't really understand why posting it for sale at that price in a halfway disassembled and pre-cleaned and who-knows actual condition... Sometimes I don't think people actually want to sell the things they have listed for sale.
