An Ole Miss trumpet student showed up with a very distressed Bach Strad. trumpet…auditions for chairs tomorrow…

He had dropped it, jacked it up pretty badly, messed up the first valve casing, and (as Fred Sanford would say, “YOU BIG DUMMY!!!”) taken pliers to the first valve casing to boot.

He left here with everything fixed, including his casing, his formerly-mangled bottom male threads on the casing sporting a nice “no-pliers” look, his crooked number one valve stem (long-time issue) that have been causing incessant clanking of the finger button against the top cap, removed all his big chumpers (karate chop dents in the bell here in there, including I’m the small tubing which leads into the first valve casing) and creases, freed the second slide – which had never been free since he bought the trumpet used, freed his third valve water slide, which he did not know was a slide, and properly aligned his first valve slide so his left hand thumb could micro tune his first valve pitches.
I try to remember that I never charge enough, and charged him $200… I worked very expertly and very quickly for two solid hours.
I believe the trumpet is worth considerably more than $200 more than it was worth when he brought it in… Maybe, we both got a good deal, today...??
Maybe, he’ll even buy the nice C trumpet that I showed to him, when he was here.
...OK... Back to Mrs. bloke’s barn...
Tonight, I will do a recharge huge coffee and hot bath thing, and get back out there and straighten out some school owned crap… Even though they don’t, don’t, and don’t pay their bills...

our pastor, who is a trumpet player, went on top of the church roof to play taps on Memorial day. He put the trumpet back in the case, tried to climb down the ladder from the roof..... dropped the trumpet 30 feet onto concrete.

Bent bell and two valves that don't move anymore. Poor guy, he was trying to do something nice. It did make for a nice video (the playing, not the drop)

Pastors and church roofs....
When I was 12 I watched my dad, the pastor, slide off a 3rd story church roof that he was shingling. Said a quick prayer (I'm sure he was praying, also!). He landed on both feet, did a forward summersault, and stood up like finishing a floor routine. His words? "Well, how about that?"
There were still 2 guys with their hammers hooked over the peak that had to be rescued.
For those looking for the 'logical' answer, he had been a college gymnast, back in the day.
For the rest of us, prayer impressed me that day.
Back to bloke - I find it interesting to see what you deal with on a day to day basis, even without pics. Me? I'm in the produce business, and today dealing with a recall on peaches, of all things, due to possible salmonella contamination.

As you are very bright, understand basic mechanics quite well, and have a very good visual memory and imagination, you then understand why it is very difficult to use one of those to bore a hole in the ground at a dead-on 90° angle to the earth.

Yes, I agree: pictures of Bach trumpets are about as boring as it gets. Now, something with quirks, or historical significance, obscure makes that play really well, or plays well above its intended grade (Olds Ambassador), or has nice engraving and/or sterling silver bell, bring it on!!! But Bach trumpets? Especially as they have flat fifth partial issues almost as bad as an unkempt 186? YAWN!!!
