~Sold~ Meinl-Weston Model 25 BBb Rotary Valve Tuba w/bag

~Sold~
Selling for a friend:
Meinl-Weston Model 25 4v BBb tuba with custom gig bag. $2795, or make a reasonable offer.

This finely crafted instrument was made in (the former) West Germany and distributed in the US by Getzen. The serial number dates the year of manufacture to 1971, according to online serial number resources. The overall condition is cosmetically "Good" and mechanically "Very Good". A snazzy glove-fit Glenn Cronkhite gig bag is included.

This is a larger 4/4-size instrument, comparable to a Yamaha YBB-641 or a Miraphone 187 (I have owned all three). The difference from smaller 4/4 horns is in the larger bottom bow and bell throat.

Sound:
- The scale and response are good and typical for a German rotary valve tuba of this vintage.
- Sweet and singing tone when needed or dark and weighty: it's up to you and what you put into it.

Mechanical Condition:
Valves - The valve linkages have been upgraded. The action is smooth. The valves have very good compression.
Slides - The slides all operate smoothly. Both #1 and #3 slides are accessible for on-the-fly tuning.

Cosmetic Condition:
- There is evidence of prior repairs, lacquer wear, dents, scratches and dings. The most notable dent is on the bottom bow (pictured).
- The lacquer finish is worn and shows areas of discoloration. The bell rim area in particular has a dark area where some touch-up lacquer did not take very well.

No mouthpiece is included, but if you need one I have several available for purchase. Generally a "Euro" or "Perantucci" shank mouthpiece will fit this horn's receiver best. Standard/"American" shank mouthpieces will fit, but will go in a bit further than in an "American" size shank - sometimes this is fine, sometimes not.

Technical specs per M-W:
Key: Bb
Bore: .768" / 19,5 mm
Bell: 17.7" / 44,9 cm
Height: 41.7" / 105,9 cm
Size: 4/4 size
Valves: 4 rotary valves
Finish: Clear lacquer finish

Local pickup in Tucson, AZ 85745 or can be ground shipped for $295 to CONUS/Lower 48 US states only - no other countries or other US states/territories, etc.
