As I've been re-embracing the B-flat realm/existence/Lebensweise,

(though - to the possible kolig-shoppers - I am not-at-all thinking of selling my amazing C instrument) I've decided that

- Were I ever a (ref: Cummings/Morris/Phillips) "tubist" - I am now - once again - a "tuba player"

oh yeah...and I won't use these to play in any "wind symphonies" or "wind orchestras"...I'll only be using them to play in bands, brass quintets, and symphony orchestras (aka "wire bands").

With a smaller bore and bell throat than an eastern-European-style "piggy" (Czech, Russian, or Miraphone-alike), it offers considerably more clarity and front than any "piggy".

The 19 inches of bell pancake (4" - 6" of which is optics/theater) prevents music directors from telling me to play with a "rounder" sound.

i wouldn't mind having a front bell tuba for when we play outside... we do a memorial service at the cemetery. this cemetery has a neat little courtyard/park like area with a stage. i guess it's for outdoor services... but it was there before COVID, i know several others that have built places like this so they could have services with ventilation since COVID came.

we also do an outdoor concert on the town square in late June... both times i feel like i'm blowing my rear off but not getting any sound out. last year i turned slightly and tried to bounce the sound off the wall of a building that was 40/50' away... but then i thought about lag time and didn't know if it would be "echoey" or not.

a bell front would help... even a decent METAL sousaphone would help there... but i'm not sure my back would allow a sousaphone. i've thought about one of the older 2341's but they're so big... i saw a high school with what looked like a little miraphone with a front bell... that would work.
