45 miles east of me...
I'm not interested... But my garage is open if someone wants it, but can't get out here just yet to pick it up.

That would be a great Frankentuba project for someone to convert to a sousaphone.

I'd like to see the sousaphone bell section that would drop in to that.

I am bad at eyeballing sizes (or rather it is hard without som sort of relative scale) but style-wise at least
viewtopic.php?t=4029 isn't too far off, is it?

Bearing in mind that both are the same length ... I don't think so, but here they are, side by side for viewing convenience -

I had no idea Altieri would make a helicon bag.
That's interesting. It must be huge.

Surprised there haven't been many helicons with removable bell sections. Physically, it wouldn't be hard to construct one. It could fit in a sousaphone-style hard case.

Yes she made a few. They're all custom. I just don't see the advantage for carrying a helicon. Offers no real dent protection and in the case of a helicon perhaps a false sense of protection. I don't see it as being easier to carry as all the helicons I've had have been pretty easy to carry and adding a bag takes away all the lift and carry contact points and instead you just have the back pack straps and unlike a tuba I just don't see having the helicon on my back as an advantage. As I recall they were pretty expensive to boot.
I was thinking the gig bag was more like a dust cover/protection within the home/storage place, not for transportation. A helicon sort of has it's own transportation system figured out already.

The Wessex helicons all have that feature. Definitely seems like a no-brainer.

Today, sure, 'tis a no brainer from a non-playing logistical standpoint. But prior to sousaphone-ness, you already got quality performing upright bells, why potentially mess that up by adding a joint of some sort, which turned out to be a collar system. Nd if you want to brace it, that is added complexity.
That particular sousa is now looking extra unique (as if it weren't already due to the body) as i think if a person were playing it, i think they would have extra room to see under the bell...

Right - a casual look at helicon pictures turns up only a couple with detachable bells, and the rest have braces much nearer the end of the bell.
