Conn 24J Gig Bag

Post by GC »

Is there anyone out there who makes a gig bag for the recording bell 24J, whether one-piece or 2-piece? Asking for a friend. Really.

They now say, "Note: We only make bags for upright bell tubas." on the tuba page of their web site. Still, it'll be worth a try to ask if they'll make a 2-piece.

I asked him to make a cimbasso bag (copying the dimensions of my rectangular "road" case).
Rather than "sorry, no" I - as a "bonus", I suppose...?? - received just a little bit of a lecture about how difficult it would be, and what an unreasonable request I was making.

(The Chinese one "just" fits in the Cronkite-pattern contrabass trombone bag, but mine is different from the Chinese one.)

In the meantime, I've decided that it's too delicate (and - perhaps - too valuable) for a bag, anyway...and (though I'm getting older) I'm wondering the same thing about my other tubas. (So far, TWO tubas - and the cimbasso, the euphonium, and the valve trombone are CASE ONLY instruments. I'm thinking about going that way with the rest of them - particularly after the F and E-flat are refinished.)

the actual part of my post which is topical:
Before the internet (and before all of those craftsmen were recruited to manufacture products for export), there would have been all sorts of people - in the far east, India, and nearby nations - who would have made you a wonderful pair of bags for your Conn recording bass, but you would have needed to have been there with your instrument.
