Hi Folks, just wondering if anyone has a 2000 that they were looking to part company with? I realise that these won’t come up for sale often, but it’s worth a try!

very nice tubas...I nearly kept one for myself (a lacquered 2155 version).
I've found that the 2155 versions (for whatever reasons) play in tune (with even less slide movement required) than any of the 2000's I've played.
I suspect that (either version) could have given the 188 market a run for it's money (and still be in production today) had they been supplied with mouthpipes with more conservative small-end dimensions.

Bloke, I was very tempted to jump on a plane from Scotland and come and try/buy the 2155 you had up for sale, but by the time I had made up mind that I was ready to actually part with my money, it was gone. I sold my 2000 about twelve years ago after falling for the bigger is better ethos and have regretted it since, in a real bang my head against the wall repeatedly way. I’ve had a Thor and a 1293 since then, and although both were really good instruments, I always felt like I was negotiating my way round them, but that could easily just be my limitations in playing and technique. Funnily enough, I’ve been thinking about a Hagen 496 or B&S GR51, only because of what I’ve read about them, and B flats were the first big tubas I played as a student in Germany. By the way, your new Bb looks great!

if you stumble across a 5450 with a low-for-the-series serial number (ex: 0071XX) and with an 18" bell, try it with a mouthpiece that's a full 1/8" deeper than one you normally use. If you "sort-of" like the results, I can hook you up with something that really works well (and "covers" that 5450 "RAHHHH !!!" nicely - but without muffling it).
