I’ll be spending part of today repairing a tenor saxophone.
(Come on; at least it’s not a soprano or alto.)

Of all the saxophones, tenor is my favorite! In the hands of the right player, it’s magic! Stan Getz, for example.

Lee Stofer just painstakingly restored an old saxophone for the Bix Beiderbecke museum. Not y'all's favorite things to do, but work is work! And must be a little more fun than busted knuckles on school Yamahas

People come to us with their Mark VI baritone saxes (some/many of the better players seem to prefer those which only offered range to low B-flat (concert C-sharp), because my combination of doing a really nice job of straightening (often) "banana-ed" stacks, smushed-up bottom bows, damaged bells, necks, tone holes, required soldering, and (also requiring soldering) slightly moving posts (to eliminate end-play from wear). Moving posts and "dressing" them (as well as "dressing" the ends of the hinge rods on the articulating keys) is really far more efficient (and less invasive) that struggling to stretch (swedge) keys.
and Mrs. bloke's meticulous pad/adjustment/voicing (key height) work...
...while leaving (whatever's left of) the original lacquer as intact as possible...
That's just a winning combination, for them.
We don't see that many old King's (Super 20's, Zephyr's, etc.), we see even fewer old Conn 6M/10M instruments, even fewer Buescher 400s even fewer old Martin's, and (mostly) the combo band-director/sax-player people (as so many band directors seem to be Yama-bots) play Yamaha's.
This one was for the forty-something-years 2nd bassoonist in the Memphis Symphony (who also plays tenor/bari/bass clarinet/bassoon with the touring Broadway shows - as well as tenor or bari in the Memphis Symphony Big Band ( https://m.facebook.com/watch/?v=592925635162960&_rdr ) .
He did handstands after he got it back from us. (There's a tiny piece of paper, separating the bottom bow cap from the concrete - in the picture.)

To clarify...
I'd MUCH rather straighten out saxophones than tubas, and (as sit-at-their-desks glue-and-alcohol-flame people tend to attempt to straighten saxophones out) saxophone players (often) don't realize what they're risking - by leaving their instruments with those people (to do the types of things that I do).
bloke "I'm slow, but I CAN re-pad a saxophone (and with Mrs. bloke probably only letting forth one slight sigh). I would NOT wish to have most of 'those people' remove any sort of dent or bend from anything of mine."

If they didn't play so sharp (and had nicer breasts), they might not end up getting arrested.
bloke "pronoun sensitive"

Yamabot band directors:
We're selling 5 used (they specified "Japan-made" saxophones to one school - for more than we would sell them some better brand-new ones.
bloke "fine with us"

Why don't you just stick two fivers together and call it a day?
