i've gone thru my box of mouthpieces and the best intonation and tone seems to come from a Bach 24AW megatone... the 24AW has always played well for me but although i've had it a long time, i've never used the megatone much, it's always seemed to take so much air, but on this 2145 it doesn't seem to do that so much.

question: the receiver is just a LITTLE too large for the mouthpiece. it inserts completely to the bowl and would fall out if i tilt the wrong way. i hate to have to change the receiver just for the one mouthpiece... and i don't really like tape (but i can use it if i have to). is there an insert i can get for that?

i used an old old sousaphone tuning bit this morning that worked ok, it extended the lead pipe of course and i had to adjust intonation some... it looks kinda funky though.

the more i play this the more i'm liking it... smooth and easy.

A few months back, Matt Walters sold some Euro to Standard adapters here. I had never seen one, and bought one. It works perfectly on my Rudy to do exactly that.

I'm not sure what these are or where they came from, but it sounds like it might be exactly if what you need.

There used to be inserts, but I've not had much luck finding them for use on the Cerveny. Tilz makes some, but none seem the right dimensions. Plumber's silicone tape works ok. I do know some of the EU mouthpiece makers include copies of the Bach mouthpieces in their stock (like Josef Klier and their USA Line), but I don't know how the available shank sizes (12.5 and 13.5) compare to a standard Bach. Another option is to see if another manufacturer's lines (like Tucci) include any cups that are similar enough to the 24AW. That's the direction I went with the Cerveny, although it wasn't a 24AW cup I was seeking.

Mouthpiece adapters are all much too thick, and always screw things up.

If a junk mouthPIPE tube is found with a straight section within it which features a taper very close to a Jarno taper (with a bore from roughly .530" and larger for an inch or so), that could be cut out of that junk mouthpipe tube, soldered over the shank of a mouthpiece, and then - with some care - filed/sanded down (to fit) from c. 2/100ths of an inch thickness down to around 3/1000ths of an inch thickness. This (from "standard" to "euro") is a homespun method, but far superior to any of those horrid adapters. "Paper" - actually - is infinitely superior to any adapter.

That having been said...
If your Bach mouthpiece is NOT "bottoming out" and you have a way of determining that the small-end of the mouthPIECE is NOT reaching the choke-point (the beginning of the mouthPIPE), you've nothing to be concerned about. Simply (in that case), your receiver is one which I refer to as "fake euro"...ie. It's made extra-long to "look good" when a euro-shank mouthPIECE is inserted into it, but - in reality - its just a regular STANDARD shank RECEIVER with an extended large end.

i've done a bit of searching on the internet for a mouthpiece adapter... i may not be using the right words in my question. maybe someone has a suggestion... but i was thinking (that can be dangerous) that several of my buddies are into 3D printing. is there a way to get the dimensions of what i need so they can print one?
