Hello everyone! I bought my ultrasonic cleaner second-hand from a shop that was going out of business. The owner gave me a mostly empty jug of the chemical they used and had success with. Unfortunately the label was unreadable and they couldn't remember where they got it. Well, I ran out and bought what I thought would be a good cleaning agent. I was wrong. I dipped a test instrument, and it turned all of the lacquer white and started peeling it up. What do you all use and where can I get it?

I don’t know anything about those things, but did you choose a cleaning substance that was a pretty strong alkaline, or is it acidic?
Strong alkalines take off lacquer. I would imagine they would take it off with or without ultrasonic waves.

IPA / Isopropyl alcohol. 15-20 bucks a gallon. You can cut it up to 50-50 with de-ionized water, that's how they make "rubbing alcohol" After 50%, it loses its antiseptic disinfectant properties. Here's a place you can get some:

Classic Brass. Be sure to dilute as directed.
