I sure like the look of satin silver that’s had a bit of time to ‘season’.

Pretty good deal. Especially since there is a sponsored ad below it offering a new lacquer 2341 for $9100! To save money, one needs to get over having everything new.
Only can see the dents in the bottom bow which aren't serious.

If I needed a BBb, I'd be on my way to New Orleans right now

How long did they offer that finish for?

A BBb tuba is about 18 feet long, so they offered it for about 18 feet on this tuba.

"for" wasn't necessary, but who's quibbling?

Grammar jokes aside, I do think that the satin finish points to a time when UMI or whatever was still trying to make good tubas.

They made a satin lacquer finish that was pretty interesting too

Yes. Sorry, I try to offset my dumb puns with actual content and forgot this time. I know the Conn 5XJ tubas of the early 2000s(ish) offered satin silver finish, but jury's out on whether that was a good-faith attempt to make a good tuba.

I think that those 5xJs were really close to being great tubas. According to Matt Walters, he basically gave them the recipe on how to cut and cobble the 2341 bits along with a “monster” Eb bell and bottom bow into a capable CC tuba. There were a few tweaks Matt did to the first dogleg and/or branches that UMI felt wasn’t needed, but apparently altered the intonation a good bit. Plus, they made the 4th slide layout a bit precarious.
Eastman basically copied Matt’s recipe verbatim with there 4/4 CC, and those are quite popular.
I had a student who bought a two-piece 2341 in the late 1990s, likely one of the last batches made. A great sounding horn, but it needed a lot of cleaning from residual manufacturing gunk. I remember being pretty stoked that UMI was taking on the competition and updating the 2341 (which is a competent tuba) and also making the 5xJ series. Unfortunately, it was somewhat short lived.
