Band Reunions

Post by Three Valves »

I graduated from HS in 1980. Our music program was pretty successful. So were the students.

Robert Streckfuss went on to U of Delaware. Paul Parets replaced him and lasted over 30 years.

What's a band reunion? We don't even have a HS reunion, due to lack of interest.

We were going to go to the Friday night football game.

According to the local headlines, the football program was “forced” to cancel their program.

“Forced” by apathy.

No one showed up. :smilie5:

Despite being more connected than ever, the population appears less connected than ever.

Exceptions are NOT the rule.

I graduated from HS in 1976. We've had HS CHOIR reunions, College Band reunions, and HS Class reunions from both HS's i attended. I go to my wife's HS reunions, too. I like 'em all.

Some of these folks I went to Middle School and Elementary School with.

I don’t keep in touch regularly.

It’s nice to know they are there.

I wonder if Robert Streckfuss is related to Fred Streckfuss, long-time conductor of the Teaneck Summer Band (I believe he passed on several years ago)

@Yorkboy

Our BDs, Robert and Paul, went to Michigan.

Robert still directs in NJ but he did not mention a family member up there.

The Midde school BDs were given their due as well.

BTW~Anyone catch Robert as Peter Fonda?

I believe Fred was originally from Virginia…..he retired from teaching in Teaneck and moved to Florida, where he passed some time ago. As a youth in the 70s I played in that band and was mightily impressed with his musicality.

We have an alumni band that performs a few concerts each year and gets to perform on the field with the current HS band at Homecoming. It is small but growing.

My high school had one several years ago, but I was afraid I wouldn’t recognize anyone. wouldn’t remember their names, or that I might want to leave after ten minutes, plus Mrs. bloke doesn’t know any of them.
I have three high school friends that get together every couple of years and play trios and quartets.

It would be really sad if the football temples in TX ever went silent like ours had.

And our stadium was only an unlit chapel by comparison.

I used to make fun of them.

Now I think they were actually onto something…. :tuba:
