Miraphone "Petrushka" Gig Bag

Post by BlueRidgeTeacher »

I think I might be pulling the trigger on a Miraphone "Petrushka" gig bag in the next couple days for my Eastman 853. Does anyone have experience with this bag and the Petrushka tuba? Does it fit real snug? This bag was designed for the instrument. My 853 is 15 mm taller than the Petrushka and has a bell about 12 mm wider. About a half an inch for both measurements. I like a tight-fitting gig bag but want to make sure my horn will fit.

Thanks for any help!

- I post too much.
- This is a typical answer from someone who does not know the answer.

Those dimension discrepancies sound close enough to me to be worth the risk, particularly since they are within the range of the thickness of typical padding. Further, top loading bags – by their design – tend to not fit as snuggly as California-made and California-style clamshell bags.

I have the Miraphone CC gig bag for my 1291, which is an exact fit, with not much room to spare. I have seen similar with the Petrushka gig bag on a Petrushka, but I was not the one putting it in the case.

The Petrushka (and Gronitz PF 125, which share the same cordura Cronkite bag) have a 16.5" bell. The Eastman site lists the Eastman 853 with a 17" bell. That alone, with my experience with Miraphone bags, would make me look for another bag.
