Martin Mammoth Bb tuba, Top action, Raw brass

Post by Tubaskinny »

Hello:
I have a very nice Martin Mammoth Bb tuba for sale. I know on this forum there are alot of experts on these horns. I am not one of them but I am a professional tuba player and repair technician so I will try to describe as best as I can.

First of all it is very good to excellent condition. 3 top action valves. 24 inch bell engraved with "Handcraft". Bore is .712 Serial number is 120149. Bell and valves have a matching serial number. I don't really know the history of this horn but it seems to have been overhauled which would explain why all the lacquer has been removed. It is dent free aside from a few ping dents and mostly scratch free. It seems to have been lightly buffed but by someone who really knew what they were doing, No signs of heavy buffing. They clearly decided to leave imperfections rather than buff it death. Slides are nice and smooth. Valves are smooth and show very little wear considering how old the horn is and it doesn't seem to have a recent valve job

Plays great, huge but nimble. Like a martin does should. Good intonation. It comes with two original (i think) bits. No case. Stand in picture not included.

I cant figure out how to add pictures to this, so email me at tshornrepair@gmail.com and Ill email them to you.

Asking 2,200 obo plus your choice of shipping. I know how to pack a tuba so it wont get damaged. It will have to go in two boxes. Local pickup also available. I'm in New Orleans.

These are great horns, and I am particularly partial to the "Handcraft" engraving years.

Upright or recording bell (guessing latter from diameter)?

SN places it in 1937. I have a 1935 model, and my recording bell is 24", so I'm thinking you're correct.
