I only use an alarm when I have to get ready for work. Since most of my work is at night or in the afternoon I generally don't set a wake-up alarm. I get up sometime between 4:00 and 6:00 and take care of the cats. I take my insulin shot, then a half-hour later I eat. I am generally awake and ready to deal with life by 9:00 — even caffeine is not working so well anymore in that regard.
My alarms are either on my laptop or phone and are set to the old US Navy klaxon sound in the "Classic" alarms folder on Apple devices. It never fails to get me running to turn the dang thing off.

By the way, I *love* the NPR Tiny Desk concert series. I listen to them on a regular basis. Great stuff!

I've actually used a blinking alarm clock since for years since I would get up earlier than my wife (0530 or so) and wanted to avoid waking her up as well. That changed when her job changed a while back so now she's up before me. We're both transitioning jobs later this year, so I'm forecasting the possibility of changing my wake-up routine.
