Who wants to help get this to Minnesota? :tuba:

PS, I just sold a Josef Monke mouthpiece to a friend a few weeks ago. Shallow and narrow, and not for a BBb... But a neat piece regardless.

Wow! That is a really tight wrap! Looks like spaghetti. From the dimensions, this maker made a 4/4 tuba within the space confines of a 3/4.

Valve buttons have a Cerveny-ish look to them, to my eye.

Nickel silver inner slides?

It does look cool, and a good price too. Might be a money pit if the rotors end up needing more work. But it certainly has a a unique look!

Showing my geographical ignorance... is Köln on the Rhein?

I don't imagine this will last untilthe next time i'm out that way... At least i got to see a picture, at least of the front. I like how third valve circuit goes around the bugle (i think).

Nice compact instrument. I like the size of the rotors compres to the rest of it.

Ja, das ist richtig.

@DonO., this reminds me a lot of a BBb Piggy. I dunno about the bore size of this Monke, but the C Pig managed to pack a lot of tuba with a very large bore into a small, tightly-wound package. I love 'em.

Koln = Cologne

Just realized the mouthpiece I had was "Wilh. Monke Koln". I'm sure they were related, but I forget the history

From horn-u-copia:
Josef and Wilhelm Monke, father and son. Josef established in 1922 Wilhelm established independently in 1945.
Monke tubas are here: https://www.horn-u-copia.net/show.php?s ... 2Monke+%22

One of the horns on the Monke page indicates Miraphone as the maker. Not sure if Monke did the designs and contracted out the manufacturing or they just stenciled others horns.

CL ad still up. Possibly they didn't want to pay eBay fees. Ad still sounds legit, but the horn likely needs work.

That is very understandable and one of the reasons I much prefer to buy/sell my gear on here or FB.

There is a Hirsbrunner near me listed for sale forever for $7,000, but due to eBay rules I can't even go try it out or make an offer before purchasing, and eBay then makes you pay sales tax (yikes!) on top of the purchase price, and takes out a chunk of the seller's dough.

I had been in touch with the seller since before the ebay ad and during the ebay ad...

Seemed like they were wanting to sell it locally and not do shipping (though they tried to find shipping options for me, nothing worked out). They were trying to sell it to me still even though the ebay post was active with (at last count) 23 bids. I also asked them if they are selling on eBay, then how do they plan to ship it? Then the ebay ad got pulled.

I don't think anything was fraudulent, but rather just disorganized and indecisive.

Sorry to all who bid on it. Including me.

I had this experience with a horn. Still worked out, though.

Sorry it didn't work out, Brett. Pretty cool looking tuba.

I'm sure the right one(s) will come along to you when the cards are right.
