Good afternoon and happy weekend! I got a Protec C240 in the mail yesterday. Bell fitment and length seem to have a decent fit but the bridge/valve key section fits a bit tight to where I need to pull both halves of the case together and zip. It does zip fairly easy with a little bit of work. The only time she goes into the gig bag is to and from orchestra. Otherwise, she lives in the upright stand in the office. Is there anything I should be concerned with? Thanks!

Personally, I wouldn't want to deal with that every single time.

You could build a “shoe tree” kinda deal that stretches the case while not in use to “form” the case. Just needs to match the dimensions close enough.

Reminds me of putting softballs in my baseball gloves…

You will get into some sort of routine where - once you have it mostly zipped up - you will scoot things around a little bit and zip it up the rest of the way. It's a whole lot less trouble than paying $400 additional dollars for some perfect fitting bag.

Ended up returning this one to Amazon even though I got a hell of a deal on it. I ordered the next size up which fits up to a 22in bell but has an accommodating depth of 11in, which is just over the measurement of my tuba. Bell will be a bit small in there considering it is only 16.5in and the width is a bit wider than my tuba by maybe a couple inches, but the depth should be a great fit. Thanks everyone for the input!

Yeah, the bell diameter of your Kaiser, like most all Kaiser tuben of old, is much smaller than the body of the instrument would imply. Most tubas with similar sized bows nowadays would have a ~20” bell*.

C tuba players have all received batteries of sociology, history, psychology, and other courses which define them as professionals. Not all B-flat players have received all of that enlightenment, so we have to assume they are amateurs.

You know, i experienced all that psychological treatment/abuse when i was in college.

We really need to get rid of the idea that to be a professional tubist, you have to play a Cc and/or F tuba.

When I played my B flat tuba with a tuner, the B flat was right in tune, so I knew I'd hit the jackpot. I took a felt tip pen and made a ring around the mouthpiece shank where it went into the tuba, so next time I'll just insert my mouthpiece to the same depth, and it should be right in tune again.

How is is the C241 coming along?

Fit was a little on the big side but fits snug enough.

I got the C240 for my Accent/B&S stencil for $199 delivered from Music & Arts.

It fits like it was made for it.

The backpack straps I do not plan on using are neatly tucked away.

Exterior pockets are large and useful.

It’s not a top loader.

Is it somewhat more difficult to load/unload and less attractive than alternatives? Yes.

3 X more so?

Update;

The inside bell diameter is accurate at 18" but the 46" length is the outside measurement, not the inside.

My tuba is just over 41" so a 42" inside measurement works great. Mine is not as deep as @Alebeard so it closes more easily.

It just kills me when the manufacturer can't publish accurate or consistent data about it's own product!

I'll see how the zippers hold out, they seem adequate, but not metal or super robust looking.

It came with a mouthpiece pouch and a dedicated place for pencils and such.

Sounds like an excuse to get a bigger tuba. Although that'd be hard to top with OP's big ol' Kaisertuba.
