Played a Conn MONSTER today

I visited norm Epley today in Louisville, with the intention of picking it up for a new Frankentuba project. I've never seen a larger Eb before. It had to be at least 38-40 inches tall and it looked like a 20 inch bell. I tend to lean tubas while I play, but I've never had a tuba that the bell was so heavy that it felt like I had to exert so much energy just to keep it from toppling

It sounded great, and I hated to rip it apart to put a front action valve set in it. If it didn't need a valve job I would have taken it despite the ergonomics, but I passed on it and instead picked up some York parts to supersize my current York /conn with a larger body. If it doesn't work, I'm not out that much and I can always go back to the way it used to be.

Here's a Pic of norm's and a link to the one in the tuba museum.
