Enjoying my new 184, now also have a Franken project

Maybe this belongs in a different forum topic, but...today, I was able to pick up from a school, for basically nothing, a Fullerton Olds-99 in pretty rough shape. Actually the bell is destroyed, but the rest of the horn is not that bad, and it plays quite well (except for a really annoying buzzing in the bell). So I've got my feelers out for a bell, or a partial (?) bell that can be grafted onto it. I've seen the Olds-99 bells on eBay and would like to beat that price, since I've got to pay for a lot of labor, too. Serial number places manufacture date at 1969.

I don't think I've ever seen a silver Olds before. Nice!

You can look for bells from the Bach version of that, as well as Conn 2J, 3J, 4J, 5J, 12J or 15J horns. Those have a wider flare, but the tail end is the same.

You could also use the bell from from your 184... hehe.

Good luck!

Now there's an idea. Make the 184 bell detachable and interchangeable. Ha. Not this guy. Thanks for the good info on the Conns. I have a lead on an Olds bell and hope it pans out. If not, the Conn info is very helpful; repair shops usually have a room full of those as parts horns. I keep thinking that the ideal thing would be a custom-made carbon fiber, but no telling what that would involve or cost.

If you need it, I have a brand new bell collar for a removable bell. Might be just what you need.

7.25" diameter, about a 23.25" Circumference
