Played a "well known tuba" today

I was traveling for work today, and was able to meet up with a tuba friend that I don't get to see too often. Nice to catch up, and was given an opportunity to play test a legendary tuba.

No hype, no exaggeration... the thing is just that darn good. That's all I'll say about that!

Was the most playing I've done in 8 months. And the first "serious" tuba I've played in over a year. I haven't missed playing, because I haven't stopped long enough to contemplate whether or not I miss it.

Well, turns out that I do miss it. I don't have much time to do much more right now.... but just good to know that I didn't totally forget how to play, and I could make the cool tuba make some cool sounds. When I'm ready for tubas, tubas will be ready for me!

Thanks again for the opportunity!

So glad you made it to Hungary and played Franz Liszt's long-lost 8-valve subcontrabass saxhorn!

My guess is the King F tuba that Bill Bell played on his Vaughan Williams recording.

Sworn to secrecy.

Nah, I guess I had to say *something*... but out of respect, I won't make a big deal out of it, because my friend sure doesn't either.

Besides, that was a long trip to Hungary and back.

Frankly, the tuba stuff is cool, but it was far better to meet up with a friend in their town, hang out, and play (any) tuba for the first time in a long time. Those were the actual best parts.

That, sir, is a great response. I always enjoy meeting new people in our interesting niche of a community. Happy you enjoyed yourself!

Note that one's appreciation of a tuba is a factually fickle phenomenon, anyway.

I'm convinced that those C flat tubas - that were offered on eBay, perhaps 15-20 years ago - were designed by gov't virologists and climate scientists.

When I met Chuck last year to sell him my Besson 983, I was real curious about HIS tuba and all that. But I figured I'd spare him the fanboy questions, and just ask for a selfie instead.

Sorry to make life awkward for folk.

Go ahead @bort2.0 , and share anything what ya feel is worth sharing.

I promised to give it a fair chance at being my regular player, despite knowing ahead of time i'm not worthy.

(and this goes for the other circumlocutions other posters have made on my behalf.)

I'm just too lazy and inattentive to keep up with things these days.

And in my minimal busking experience, i definitely appreciate the folk who ask before they snap pictures, so i do appreciate your restraint!

I'll start:

I own CSO York #3, but I opened my own tuba museum (in my closet), and I've deemed that nobody can see it or play it. Sorry, but that's policy.

I'm not interested in seeing it, anyway.

I own all the subsequent ones (4 through 2039 - after they moved production to Canada)...those that play in tune without pulling any slides...

...whoops! ...I meant to say, "Those that play in TONE without pulling any slides..."

Always wondered if that subburb of Toronto was named after the tuba or vice versa. It's clearly the former. Thanks for the insight!
