It almost looks as though someone put a bigger, deeper cup around the outside of an existing mouthpiece. This picture makes it look as though there's just a hole cut out of the bottom of said cup for the shank to poke through.

What has to poke into the can there, I'd think, is the receiver - the exposed shank doesn't look long enough to seat reliably.
