Yamaha YBB-321 approximate value

Dear listers,
I recently purchased a YBB-321 on eBay for $1200. I just purchased the bottom bow and riser piece opposite the bell because the old one was smashed from standing on the bell and being knocked over. The parts cost $1400 from Yamaha24x7.com. After labor to clean and replace the parts the labor, I am calculating by hourly charges, will make the total cost at or about $2800 to $3100 total for this tuba. Did I get a good deal, just asking?

Dealers are getting around $8100 brand new, and that’s street, not MSRP. So you’re coming in at less than 1/2 new, so you did ok. One that the new one includes hard case and if you didn’t get that it’s a bit less than a good deal because separately cases cost 700-800. Used, for an example in reasonably good shape and not needing any work, I would expect to pay 3500-4000.

I am just wondering because I only play in a local community concert band and I just purchased a Cuesson 3 valve Eb. It is more than enough for my purposes, if the music calls for anything below third line A natural, I just go an octave up. Besides, I used to play Rb tuba in the Salvation Army Festival Band and at the same time in a local concert band, so I have both the treble clef and bass clef down. I am looking to sell the YBB-321 and to not have to worry about dent repairs.

I saw the pic on Ebay. Bloke or another Bloke-like horn jockey could have repaired those pieces for much, much less than the cost of new parts. Metal is wonderful stuff and in the proper hands, much can be done with it.

I'm not going to say that there is too much invested in anything-in-particular - other than when the government does it, because they do it WITHOUT asking any of us. 😠

I would love to go back to c. age 6 and fast-forward to each of the specific moments or days where I did really stupid, gullibility-based, or wrong $h!t, and FIX all of that - up until (well, I'm quite certain) even as recent as yesterday or today, but - alas - I cannot do that. :red:

If you get $ WXYZ pleasure from something (after spending only $ VWXY money on it...EVEN IF others only spend $ LMNO on the same thing), maybe (??) you're doing OK.

- We can get more money.
- In a few years, all of us will no longer need either money or things.
- I doubt if Satan (whether real, imaginary, or symbolic) earns any points when we do things out of ignorance...but I suspect that he dances a jig when we do things out of avarice or spite.

retreating from the philosophical and back towards nuts, bolts, and where the rubber meets the road:
- I'm thinking that I've priced that cheesy YBB-201/321 bottom bow cap (with the fake rib) were one bought directly from Yamaha (which I'm able to do). If I'm remembering the price correctly, they're just no way that I'd ever buy one of those things - unless a customer insisted, and (unlike most things) I'd probably ask for that to be paid in advance. Often, it's several months before Yamaha in California is able to supply parts such as those, and I would want to make sure that a customer wouldn't ask to back out - after waiting so very long.

"Pleasure"/personal use part is important. Flipping is another thing, and I think OP will be less pleased if that's the goal.
