Need new felts/rubber for valves

Post by Bandmaster »

I did not realize that everybody moved to this new TubaForum.net, shame on me... I need to find replacement felts for the valves on my BBb Holton 345. When Dan Oberloh restored it back in 2010 he used factory style felts, but they didn't last very long and collapsed into mush. So I got a set of rubber/neoprene felts from Bloke that have lasted for more than 10 years. But when I asked Bloke a while back about getting another set he said he doesn't supply those anymore and didn't even have the specs for what thicknesses to use for under the valve cap and the finger button for a Holton 345. So... I am asking for advice on what is the latest, greatest solution that players are using when upgrading their valve felts? And where should I go to get them! Thank you for any assistance you can give me.

I'm delighted to see you here and - truth be told - had been worried about you, frankly.

If they are Holton valves, I have two Holton valve sets here right now, and can use them for fitting, whereby I've otherwise changed my policy on those things and I'm requiring people to tell me how thick to send them, but I can make an exception if yours is a Holton... and not just a Holton body with European valves, or something like that.

That sounds great. You had a Holton valve set in your shop when ordered them last time. Mine are standard BB-345 valves that were modified by Dan Oberloh, but their deck height was not altered. He replaced the top insert in the valves to convert them to modern valve guides and heavier gauge valve stems. I was really happy with the ones you sent me last time and would love to get another set, maybe two so I can have spare set for next time. How do I order them from you and send you payment?

Hey Bloke, I just sent you an email to order the felts, since this forum says I haven't been a user long enough to have earned the right to use the Private Messaging service yet. :red:
