I just posted this on the other forum. And then remembered that no one is there and all the threads have been mutilated...

Kirley just had a brilliant idea. We would like to find out what you sousaphone players want in a gig bag BEFORE I start making them.
So, what would you like to see in your ideal gig bag? What is important to you? What do you like/hate about the bags that are out there?

Hey, there is no rush. I am moving about as slowly as humanly possible on this project...

I've never had a gig bag for my sousaphone. I do have many things I hate about my SKB hard case though, starting with it not fitting in the trunk of my car and only barely fitting in the backseat of my car with a lot of work on my part. I do not take the case with me when I have a sousa gig unless there is a compelling reason; there usually isn't.
So if you made a sousa gig bag that fit my horn, and it held the neck and bits, a mouthpiece or two, and i guess the lyre, and had a music pocket, I'd be about where I am now but lighter. If it fit into the trunk of my car (a 2006 Camry - exciting I know) I might consistently use it. If it had two clips where I could hook a stand bag to it externally that might be cool. If it went on either my back or over my shoulder so I could choose how to carry it, that would be good, too.
The stickler is going to be price though I imagine. I like my sousaphone. But I don't $800-gig-bag-like my sousaphone.

lots of padding, separate bell and body in a safe way, everyone always complains about the big straps on the other popular sousa gig bag

Wheels!
I have one of these and I really like it, but it's ripped (and I mean coming to bits ripped) where the top handle meets the rest of the case...

Apart from that, good padding including between the bell and body, a pocket inside under the bell, a pocket or two on the outside, lots of handles and more padding.
And cost less than my Sousaphone
Oh, and be available in the UK!
