Tuba players have been told that Verdi hated the tuba (based one or two very early wretched players of very early tubas...?? one or two very wretched very early tubas...?? ...as his first opera was composed less then a handful of years after the first [slightly-fatter-than-an-ophicleide] tuba was constructed) and (based on a couple of early players and/or their instruments) would surely hate all tubas (regardless) today.
Since that broad brush is respected to this day (though tubas only barely resemble the first ones), I feel as though I - a tuba player - should certainly be able to (at least, sometimes) hate the tuba as well.
After all, I HATE flying on airplanes. ( https://i.makeagif.com/media/9-22-2015/Rn6j-3.mp4 )
All of the parts I chose for cimbasso (other than a 4th trombone part on L.O.V.E. - which features wall-to-wall (mute) hoo-haa's - are designated "TUBA", of course, and I Will Always Love You - which is an electric bass part (the "TUBA") part for I.W.A.L.Y. is mostly rests with donuts at the end).
Those I will play on cimbasso are listed below:
> L.O.V.E. (again: a designated 4th trombone part with busy mute work)
> At Last
> Grease
> Luck Be A Lady
> Phantom of the Opera (same arrangement - and probably the same part - as the wind-band one)
> I Will Always Love You (again: electric bass part)
That leaves six pieces played on the big B-flat tuba, and five tacet pieces.
Those played on the big tuba will be:
> Carousel (medley - opener)
> Sleeping Beauty Waltz (though toying with playing it on cimbasso, as the notes are all very "crisp")
> Shallow
> The King & I (medley - 2nd half opener)
> Moon River
> Don't Cry For Me, Argentina
- I never consult with the M.D. regarding this stuff. Why present others with choices about which they aren't in the least concerned?
- If anyone is more interested in this than the M.D. - and would like glimpses at the parts I choose for cimbasso - I might be willing to post crappy phone pics (hopefully poor enough pics to be copyright-forgiven) of any requested parts, if anyone's curious as to whether they would agree with any of my choices.

IMHO, all of those charts should be on cimbasso. Plus it's easier to "emote" with the cimbasso. Isn't that a desired effect for a Valentine's concert?
