I think I played an 836 at a local music store. Way too big physically. However, it does appear that the 632 is smaller --- and has anyone played them side by side? (I know I really should just take a trip somewhere, but travel is complicated for me.)

There are three Eastman CC tubas. The 632 (4/4, Matt Walters design), the 832 (4/4, more York-ish inspired design), and the 836 (6/4, CSO York copy more or less). I own an 832, and I think if I remember correctly, in the past you said you'd tried out one as well at a music store. I found this thread: viewtopic.php?t=6107&hilit=832

So, to answer your question, the 632 is significantly smaller than the 836, but if it was an 832 you've played, then no, they are basically the same size.

The 836 is about the same size as that Nirschl York I remember you mentioned you played that was an easy blow for you.

Between the two smaller ones, aren't the only real differences that the plumbing shapes are different, one is more expensive, and the more expensive one is easier to dent?

I think I would pick the one that Matt was really proud of when it first came out, and that costs less money.
