When I get the paddle rigged up, some of you may roll your eyebrows
, others may raise your eyebrows
, and - those of you who are better at figuring out mechanics than am I - will laugh.
I DO have my L-O-N-G- piece of hinge rod (center-drilled round brass rod) for the lever, and it's the PERFECT size (and just "stock", from McMaster/Carr).
THIS LONG CHUNK (with about 1/2" extra length to spare) is actually left over from the cimbasso project, so I didn't buy anything...and Miraphone's own hinge rod is only made by them in short little chunks (long enough for their paddles), so I could NOT have bought it from them.
- Miraphone's carriage rod (steel) is 3mm diameter (.118+")
- The hole in the brass hinge rod is 1/8" (.120")
...so a "perfect" fit between metric and SAE (no wobble, but turns freely, even though SEVERAL inches long).

Tony,
I have to fix someone’s smashed up Chinese knock-off 641 B-flat...and someone’s else 188.
I’ll get on this after those, and probably post at least an after picture.
The saving grace is that it is sharp natured.
It’s it’s probably 50 years old, and was originally pretty darn high-pitched… I brought it down a good bit, but it could still come down a bit more.
