Happy Tuba Tuesday. Today, the Museum features a York, EE flat tuba, 3 piston, c.1914.
Serial #: 41732
Bell Diameter 19 1/2″, Bore: .654″, Height: 31 1/2″.
Comments:
“Made By / J.W. York & Sons / Grand Rapids / Mich.” on bell. Some floral engraving around identification marks.

I believe i see it there,
And i think this is an early example of one, although i ain't looking up when the date was...

This horn was made c. 1914. The high/low pitch "donut" was patented in 1910, so yes, a fairly early one.

Of all of the old "monster"-esque E-flats...certainly the most handsome, and - though the same intonation issues as with others...far less severe than with most of the rest.
an old bloke-souped-up one, with oem mouthpipe (I actually owned it TWICE.)

The one I built has... Let's call it "much better than expected" intonation.
I'm wondering if the shorter leadpipe (because of the higher valve section ) had anything to do with that?
