I think i am one of the only ones in Canada who one of these 3 plus 1 compensating instruments.I believe Yamaha developed these back in 2012 to serve the British brass band market in the United Kingdom.Yamaha now makes an entire line up of brass band instruments from e flat soprano cornet to my bb flat tuba. How popular is this tuba in the US and how many of you folks actually own one?

The Dublin (Ohio) Silver Band owns two of them. I can attest that they sound good- or rather that the players in the band sound good on them. They would tend to do that on whatever you put in their hands, though.

Cincinnati Brass Band has one, I played it when I didn't own a suitable large BBb. It sounds great but I just can't do a 3+1 configuration for tuba. I'm fine on euphonium, actually prefer it to four right hand valves. They are large and difficult to handle for some players and that's where a playing stand comes in handy.

I've played more tubas of this configuration and length then you might guess, and I still prefer the 1950s through 1960s 17 inch bell Edgware Road instruments from London England, as long as their pistons are not worn and leaky.

To me, these old instruments are just amazing.
