Mark Moore received the award, and deservedly so.
I don't recall this having been discussed on any tuba forums...

I took a lesson with Mickey Moore and auditioned for him for my DMA. The night before the audition he did a faculty recital. I ended up studying with his classmate at The Ohio State University, Jim Akins, who had a very similar teaching style (also another of their classmates has won this award and teaches very similar named Fritz Kaenzig).
Mickey Moore is a great fellow and has a HUGE sound. I am surprised he has pictures hanging in his office, because I bet he has to pick them up after every time he plays. I learned a great deal from him about methodical practice and just pure resonance of sound. I wish him a happy retirement.
He has had several successful students, such as Jeff Funderburk, Chris Hall, Chris Combest, Stacy Baker, and Phil Bloomer to name a few.
