Yes! The raison d'etre that we all play tubas today, including tenor tubas (see their subsequent patent). Remember that although originally invented to provide a better foundation for Prussian military bands, the tubas found their way everywhere into all genres of music. Most notable early on is Berlioz who in his later life re-scored his symphonic works from ophicliedes and serpents to the then-new tubas. All the developments since 1835 may be and should be discussed elsewhere, due to limited bandwidth in a thread, but yes, this is the beginning.

I always find myself wondering what the original patent owner would think if he could see what we're using now.
