Re: Composers Who Don't GAF About Players
I have no idea who that is. I am assuming he is a composer. Are you compartmentalizing him into the "self-styled composer" box? His “music” sucks and he’s a prima donna. He’s popular lately with stuff in drum corps and his stuff is like vidya game moosic (better composers in that genre).

Re: Composers Who Don't GAF About Players
That is crap produced by someone who wants to look like a composer but who lacks any sort of original inspiration or talent. He is a fraud, a poo-flinging monkey who shames his audience for calling out his "art" for being the poo flinging it is. He needs to look into driving a truck or perhaps ...

Re: John fletcher's Tuba for sale by the LSO - EEb
Had I the scratch for this, I’d have already reached out and said “take it off the market, it’s mine.”
As such, that is not the case. Always loved Mr. Fletcher’s playing. Someone will be getting something really special.

Re: What isn't "Fountains" programmed more often?
Pictures can be a strange experience, based upon the intent of the tuba player... Lots of community orchestras program whatever. I would also say community orchestras put a lot of stuff on the calendar, only to silently have the program subject to change. This literally happened to me. I was going ...

Re: Helene - everyone okay?
I'm in the panhandle of Florida (westernmost part), we got cloud cover, a little breeze, and some sprinkles of rain. Fortunately nothing more. Checked on @Stryk multiple times to ensure he was alright as he was much closer to where the storm made landfall. He came out alright as well.

Pronouncing Geib's name
Silly question, but I'm the curious type: How was famous tuba player Fred Geib's last name pronounced? The German "Y" sound for ei like "Gyb"? Or as I've heard multiple of our UK brethren with the long E sound of "Geeb"? And for the record, we're not going to go into the whole soft/hard G sound ...

Re: Eastman buys Willson
have since owned a compensating E-flat for quite some time, and love it. I decided to go to Eb to buck the F trend… I love playing Eb as well; it’s the best quintet and brass ensemble horn. I own an F and do more with it because of how some solos fall with fingerings but I am definitely holding on t ...

First time I heard this piece I literally had to pull my car on the side of the road and listen in full and get the piece name.

In Jacobs's biography, didn't his father have to get his weight up to be accepted at Curtis?

Re: Horns I sold, that I wish I had back
Only one comes to mind, my Mirafone 188. The first horn that I ever bought. Other than the famous tight low end, I loved the sound, the way it played so easily in most respects (heck I think I could've learned to make the low range work). My MRP is a magnificent horn and I wouldn't trade it for the ...

This is a fine album and @Kontrabasstuba Daniel's playing is very fine. For a 'tuba' album, it's really well done. I encourage y'all to check it out.

I just heard about this... his Vaughan Williams and that of John Fletcher were always the benchmark for me when it came to that concerto. I'm saddened to hear of his passing.

FS - John Packer 379FF
Hello all, I have decided to place my John Packer 5 rotor F tuba in lacquer on the market. I bought the horn brand new in 2022. Condition is good with a few minor dings in the bell and on the bottom bow. No major dents in important slides or the lead pipe. Rotors work well although a little clanky ...

Re: The quest to find a 5/4 version of a 188
I, too, am a former 188 owner. From my 188 I went to a 1291, then to a special Rudi 4/4. With all those horns I used to reminisce about my 188 because it was so easy to play. I thought I would be done with buying horns after I got the Rudi. On a knack I decided to drive to Jacksonville to try some ...
