Re: Eastman EBB825VG BBb-Tuba - Soundcheck

Anyone know if these have vented valves? I asked Eastman about this and they said their rotors have a ‘slot’ or something built in that works like a vent. Not sure I understand what happens - if the casing isn’t vented, where/how is the change in pressure being dissipated? Anyone have real world exp ...

Re: a mostly-Elgar concert

Hi, Those Elgar works do work well on comp Eb, sure! Turn of C.20th here in England the tuba guys were all on F's as far as I know; mostly small Besson Comp models, and from v early in the 1900's Harry Barlow had his non-comp models made by B&H. It wasn't until Fletch used his Eb in the 1960's that ...

Das Rheingold - Marked Part?

Hi chaps, Any chance any of you fine folk have a PDF you might share of Wagner's Das Rheingold WITH useful markings on - Cues; timings; bits & bobs, etc? Playing it soon with limited prep time... I have a clean copy but that's as barren as a wotsit. Doesn't even have rehearsal figures. Thanks for ...

For what it’s worth I’ll add my recommendation of both these products and the company.
Moving some support of your instrument away from fingers, and into the hand can seriously reduce tension.
A lot of us wrestle uncomfortable instruments so anything that might help is worth a go imo.
Enjoy,

Hi, nothing scholarly to add, and I'm sure you aren't really looking for 'insight' into how to approach the Suites, but wanted to draw attention to two fantastic but v different cello recordings of the suites. Hopefully people may like them. Peter Wispelwey: https://youtu.be/ycg6bfXgCFM?si ...

Re: Hand & forearm pains...

Which model BBb? Have you tried lighter springs? Larger diameter buttons for less reach? Repositioning the thumb ring if using one? On occasion I’ve added tabs on the fourth button for people to reduce reach. Thanks for the replies. My discomfort isn't too bad - I just want to keep it to a minimum a ...

Hand & forearm pains...

Hi. For those who've suffered with right hand &/or forearm discomfort; RSI; Tendinitis etc, how have you managed and minimised the issue? I think my trouble is that I have smaller hands, and spend probably 75% of my playing on my 3+1 Eb. Then I pick up my piston Bb and my RH pinky is getting ...

I guess you're in the King version?
#56 is on the Trinity Board Grade 8 study list and I usually opt for it with students.
A great little piece and sits well on the Eb (that all my students use here in the UK!) =)

Re: Relative worth of high price horns

I may have come off wrong. The eastmans are very nice instruments, and the pros who play them are well deserving/earned thier positions. I bought my son an eastman french horn last summer. But, i took him to dillon music and he played several horns that were in my price range for a teenager. The ...

Re: Relative worth of high price horns

I think the demand for the high dollar 6/4 horns is about the same. Where the $10,000 York copies have made a difference is in those same college kids I mentioned above. Instead of buying a $10-12k European 4/4 or 5/4 CC for general playing purposes, they spend $10k on an “orchestral tuba” because t ...

Re: Relative worth of high price horns

Also, your asking about a product made in a certain country. I believe the said certain country's business model is to steal tech, mass produce it, flood the market and drive everyone else out. Seeing so many "top" people endorsing that product, and that product being available everywhere is proof ...

Re: Relative worth of high price horns

When you're thinking about buying a tuba, do you look for high level pros who are using it? I wouldn't, but I'm not very representative of the market, I guess. If people are really influenced like that, maybe the manufacturers get their money's worth when they donate instruments to such performers ...

Relative worth of high price horns

Howdy. I'll start by saying this is not intended to slight anyone's excellent tuba, particularly if they're selling it... With each high level pro turning to Eastman (it does seem to be mostly Eastman unless I'm mistaken?) does the second-hand value of high end horns take a hit, or are there enough ...

Bach for Tuba, Vol.1 (Bixby/Bobo)

Hoping we might have a Bach scholar here who can help me identify the source of Number 12 from Vol.1, titled Aria: Dominica Misericordias Domini.

Thanks for any help!

Re: Klaus SB - Arrangement

Thanks! Oddly the score I have of Klaus' for the Grieg is an older version for standard 10-piece, but he updated the Grieg to larger forces in 2017 which is the only version I can see on the YM site. If anyone happens to have a set of parts to Grieg's Funeral March from Klaus' older arrangement for ...
