Re: V. F. Cerveny and Synove 3/4 F Tuba w/ Gig Bag $2700

These little Cerveny F tubas are the perfect recital horns! And I personally like the left hand "thumb" valve because it lets you wrap your fingers around and hold the tuba better than with a left hand finger paddle.

Re: Mammoth Mouthpieces

A Conn2/UMI 2/ Helleberg II/ FC Helleberg seems to work well on them. A medium funnel that isn't as deep as an original helleberg.

Of the four iterations of the 4/4+ Marzan: BBb/CC and piston/rotor, I find this combination to be the best.

I played Rocky Top at a senior center open mic yesterday. I was thinking of playing a movement from a cello or horn concerto, but two rounds of Rocky Top was a crowd pleaser. Last time I played there, it was Yakety Sax.

You forgot to plug it into the power strip.

(I have no idea why this didn't sell the first week you originally posted it. There is a "magic" to these older Mirafphfones.)

Great to see upright bass in a wind ensemble playing the parts it was intended to play.

Re: new tuba: Alexander 164 kaiser BBb

P.S.: I have a PT50+ with enlarged shank done by a professional local workshop which also works quite well. But I do not need it anymore as I have both the Szentpali and the AMH.

Kelly Mouthpieces makes a mouthpiece similar to the PT50, and they have shank options going up to Kaiser.

Also, none of these so-called experts at packing tubas know a damn thing about packing tubas, and - even if tubas are packed as well as anyone could ever hope - the reality is that UPS and FedEx have conveyor belts, common carriers have forklifts, airlines have 15 feet high drop-offs, and the ...

As seen below, most of the typically-written tuba range is between 2c and 2c tuned flat on typical pianos:

Re: Tuba Intonation - Rant

I’m not sure why there’s such a stigma with main slide gadgets, but that seems to be the most logical solution, but the slide has to be long enough and the horn needs to be significantly sharp with main slide all the way in.

Fred Marzan had a GREAT idea about this many decades ago. Just put the ...

Tuba Intonation - Rant

Why is it that the majority of tubas made (and still being made) have intonation that would be considered unacceptable on nearly any other instrument? I'm not talking about the geometric vs. arithmetic progression that comes from combining valves (ie 123 being sharp when 1, 2 and 3 are individually ...
