Re: Dry mouth/performance anxiety
Trident sugar free gum has solved my dry mouth issues. I like the bubble gum flavor. Chew a piece on the way to rehearsal or a gig. Keep one in my pocket in case I need one during the gig for a quick chew - only needed it once. Also, dentist approved.

Re: Wessex "Elgar" compensating Eb tuba - input wanted
I played the 15” bell version of the Elgar at the Army Conference in February. I was surprised at how quickly I adjusted to the different 3+1 valve layout. The very low G, F, E were easily produced - very open, free blowing - and a solid sound. (I played a Besson 982 Eb comp for a number of years a ...

Re: MaryAnn: Messina Bag Photos
I guess gig bags - like tubas and their mouthpieces - are all a matter of perspective and a function of what works best for you. I happen to be a big fan of the Wessex gig bag as I don’t have to lift the tuba ala top loaders or bend way over ala side loaders. I can get the tuba into the Wessex bag w ...

Re: Wessex Tubby EEbb
Unclebeer is right. The Tubby Eb IS a fantastic tuba, and I am not biased. Here’s my review a year ago https://www.tubaforum.net/viewtopic.php?p=43906#p43906. The only change to that review is I found the gig bag is not exactly a “perfect” fit since the bell is a little larger than 19”. Wessex has to ...

Re: tablets for gigs
I’ve been using the Apple iPad Pro 12x9 since March 2016. It has never malfunctioned, it has never had a battery failure, it has never blown over, i use a regular (K&M) music stand, I have not needed a stand light since, and I have not missed a page turn. I also write all the notes I want on the m ...

Wessex Eb 'Tubby' Tuba
With several happy players reporting on their tubas, I thought I would join in with a report on my Wessex Eb Tuba 'Tubby'. I was very interested in the new Wessex 'Tubby' Eb and planned to try it at the Army conference in February and, if liked, place an order right then. Since the in-person ...

Bort, Roger had been at the Army conference and Adam Frey’s annual event. He’s done so much with so many groups you could have heard his name anywhere.

RIP Roger Comley
I know some here knew Roger Comley, tuba and euphonium player in the Richmond, VA area. Roger died unexpectedly on November 29, 2021. He would have been 62 on December 9. He was a great friend and a great musician. He especially enjoyed helping others in the music world, including providing the ...

Re: Øystein Baadsvik's online academy
Not having had much formal tuba instruction (high school trumpet player, now 50+ years later playing Eb tuba) I have found the Oystein Baadsvik online academy very helpful. His presentations provide a lot of insight into playing tuba and his exercises have had a noticeable positive impact. He also ...
