It already plays pretty well. It is presently my #2 tuba. I am hoping to have it play as though I have 2x #1 tubas.

Re: Valve Oil Preferences?

Perhaps I don't need to, but I use a needle dropper for the mineral oil on the slides.

The way I've rigged up my third slide with a return spring (4th partial 2-3 valve combination) the needle oiler comes in particularly handy, as I'm able to back-feed the mineral oil to the #3 slide through the ...

Re: Valve Oil Preferences?

+1 for bloke advice.

Last week, I went and got a bottle of Equate mineral oil. This morning regreased my slides. The mineral oil does a great job. It's very smooth and just the right consistency. I just need to pour some into a smaller bottle like I did the lamp oil for the valves. Slathering it ...

Rudy 4/4 CC getting a "glow up"

In April 2025, I acquired a Rudy Meinl 4/4 CC. It's a nice horn that needs a bit of TLC. On Friday, I am dropping it off for the following work.

* Ultra Sonic Cleaning (She has a tank large enough for a 6/4 tuba)
* Bell repairs (remove crease and make bell more symmetrical)
* Misc dent work ...

Re: Valve Oil Preferences?

I'm not a cool kid, but I followed bloke's advice a long time ago and bought a big jug of Ultra-Pure lamp oil

Same here. Works great, and I don't have any guilt about using it liberally.

I repurposed an empty Blue Juice bottle, and found that accidentally splashing a little on the outside ...

Thank you for sharing this. I too, wore out the Bill Bell and His Tuba cassette tape.

I performed a MUCH MUCH more conservative and straight version of this when I attended the Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing arts back in........I guess it was 1996. We dressed up and had a ...

@bloke excellent solo! I'm impressed. So no sheet music for the tunes. How did you memorize them? Was it remembering the changes? Did you memorize the parts? Were the bass/tuba parts played the same (more or less) each time or was each performance unique, because you were playing the changes?

It's this tuba (see link) that I bought new 43 years ago.
At the time I was playing with this band, it was only tuba owned, though I owned two different sousaphones, as - two years prior to this band recruiting me - I was playing at two venues back to back five nights a week and six nights a week ...

@bloke what make, model and key of tuba did you use for the recording? I can't really tell what you are holding in the promo shot. You were just a singer or 2 away from being Squirrel Nut Zippers.

If Wade would agree to drive to somewhere that he feels it would be safe to ship FROM, I suspect there would be more serious interest. Refusing to ship and living where he does, it's going to be difficult no matter how wonderful the tuba is.

But where is "safe?" I think shipping immediately ...

I would love to own this CC Marzan but that is not in the cards right now. Sooooo I would love to see it sold and someone out there in tuba land enjoying it. Here's a nice example of Stephanie Ycaza (UNC Greensboro) playing her B&M 5520 (basically this horn).
