That is the story of my life. I could be there in 2 hours with cash in hand, but I don't need another tuba.

Re: Where to try out new Tubas?
I think maybe the 494 wasn't there because I bought the one that was at the Army conference after LeMark play tested it for me. I have to assume that they took one that had been thoroughly tested ahead of time, to the conference. Funny, I started my job here in Tucson in June after I graduated from ...

Re: Where to try out new Tubas?
I realize it's a bit of a drive, but TMEA in San Antonio is coming up next month. You can go in and register as a visitor, then hit the exhibit hall and play everything to your heart's content. Other than that, I think there's a place in Castlerock that has a few.

A friend of mine was buying Mahillan Eb tubas off of a site on Ebay for a while. That might still be a good spot to start looking. His were 3/4 sized as well.

Ain't nuthin' wrong with a 187, I had one. The only reason I parted ways with it was because I got a 496 Hagen.

Re: TC Green Book…?
Advice for more seasoned eyes: spring for the large-format size book--worth every penny. I would definitely like to have the biggest print available. I’ll look for one if I go. I took the time to split the parts up and reprint every song so they appear as 1 song per page 8-12" X 11" . This of c ...

Re: Music Prep for Christmas
I'm fortunate the the bane of a repair tech our local shop had died or I would be doing a lot of driving to have someone else more reliable work on my horns. Our local shop now has somebody half-decent working in it. All I have to worry about is trying to study for my geetar lessons on top of ...

Re: freak jury opinions sought. WIDE (will light up TWO pages) rechargeable multi-LED clamp-on stand lights
Most music is printed in consideration of page turns. It baffles me that a certain percentage of it isn't. As far as string players are concerned, they don't need foot pedals, because they've got their standmates. Yeah, very little of what our church literature is printed that way. I just hope the ...

Re: freak jury opinions sought. WIDE (will light up TWO pages) rechargeable multi-LED clamp-on stand lights
I remembered the tablet topic when I was up in the balcony in Pittsburgh, and I didn't see any evidence of use of tablets on stage. I looked around the sections throughout the concert, saw pages being turned, and no screens being touched. If you use a Duo BT-500 AirTurn pedal, once you've got your ...

Re: freak jury opinions sought. WIDE (will light up TWO pages) rechargeable multi-LED clamp-on stand lights
I've never seen the first one you listed, but I like it. I like the second one better than the first simply because I think it would do a better job of lighting two pages of manuscript. I have provided the 3rd option for my fellow church musicians at my own cost, and I did this when they were cheap ...

Re: striking the bell
First off, the bell is made of brass. Brass is soft and dents easily. Unless the horn is an old "beater" horn, in order to avoid any personal bodily injury, I'd recommend not doing this at all.
