I used Hetman’s for a long time but found it could leave behind a yellowish funk over time. I liked Resilience Oils just fine but am now using Ultra Pure and am quite happy.
Every time I oil a piston I wipe it off with a microfiber cloth and also give the valve casing a quick wipe as well. This ...

I’ve never seen one in silver. Someone smarter than me thinks CMC imported some in raw brass and had Andersen plate them, which makes some sense given the excellent condition of the silver on this horn.

If it were closer to me I'd still offer half, contingent upon inspection. I can't imagine what the rotors might look like.

Re: Playing Stands… WTH?
As someone who is a big advocate of the use of a stand (and the BBC stand in particular) I can tell you it takes extensive getting used to using and having it feel remotely natural. My saddle is loose enough to pivot if I turn my position or horn. I wouldn't say I use the stand to support the horn's ...

Steering back to the topic for a bit...
One of the very best tubas I have ever played was an earlier Besson 995. I didn't get a chance to put it on a tuner but it passed the sniff test and then some. The design is widely copied / adopted for very good reasons. I recall playing one of the Nirschl ...

Does that Pops folder include Jaws or CE3K? Or possibly the Suite from The Reivers? ( (jump to 3:10 to hear the excellent Cameron Gates lay this down)

Re: Eastman EBC834…keep an eye out…
2155 is a good reference point, although I feel like the 834 had a better response and was easier to play. I do feel like it's a 4/4, perhaps on the larger side of that range.

Re: Eastman EBC834…keep an eye out…
I made a specific point to see this horn at the Army Workshop this past weekend.
It's amazing. Playing it is like pressing the "Easy" button. I asked Chuck Kerrigan what they were trying to accomplish with this horn and he said they they were trying to build a 4/4 CC tuba that had a sound than the ...

Re: U.S. Army Band TEW 2025 - Who's Going?
I am seriously considering attending if at all possible. However, I am quite the babe in the woods about the arrangements. The last time I went was decades ago and I only went for the day. This time I would want to stay for the whole thing. So I have tons of questions.
1. Do you have to pre ...

Re: Question for Götz Supersac owners
I find them to be NOT elastic at all. In fact, they seem to be - in my experience - quite unforgiving. Extremely well made (all mine were custom orders).
All the ones I've owned are "triple padded" which seems to a) reduce the interior dimensions slightly; b) make for a nice, firm, dense shell; and ...

Re: Question about "gargling"Eastman 632 CC
Many York-style instruments collect water, particularly in the 3rd and 4th slides at the elbow where it exits the piston. Water keys help but the spin-n-dump method will always be more "complete" when it comes to removal. In a cold room, I collect a LOT of water in my 836 and have learned the ...

Re: Corrosion silver vs lacquer
There is no silver plating on the inside. You can see that inside the bell where you can see that only the upper part is plated.
It is mostly a cosmetic thing.
I'm not looking at it directly at this second, and won't be able to for a bit, but I'm fairly certain my Eastman is silver plated both ...

Re: Adams F — $12,500 — SOLD!
Not weird at all. My Eastman 836 profiles a lot like your Yamaha - it's an "every day" horn. I don't have a need for what something like the Holton would do for me so I'm good, and my Getzen covers the smaller end of the spectrum (and as a plus is point-n-shoot for me). I'd like to add a piston F ...
